Dior Illustrated

Today, I went on a uni day trip, to see two exhibitions. One was the 'Dior Illustrated' at Somerset House. The show showcased the artwork of renowned artist RenĂ© Gruau's illustrations for Christian Dior Parfums, vintage perfume bottles, sketches and magazines, as well as a selection of Dior Haute Couture dresses . The illustrations portray feminine beauty throughout the decades of Diors work. I was fascinated by his work and done a bit of further research.

"To be inspired by Dior is to be inspired by René Gruau. His sketches capture the silhouette and spirit of Dior and a new era of fashion and feminity. His illustrations and timeless, ever youthful, ever faithful to the moment he saw; they capture the energy, the sophistication and daring of Dior, and equally are a token of an enduring friendship" - John Galliano

We wasn't allowed to take photos in the gallery, but I managed to find some pictures on the internet of my favourite pictures.

This illustration shows the hand of Mitzah Bricard (friend and muse of Christian Diors) on a leopards hand. She frequently wore a leopard print scarf on her wrist and was the inspiration for the leopard motif.

The ever changing face of 'Miss Dior'. This 'Diorella' is from 1972, and the picture is the epitimy of the 70's. The strong pose from Miss Dior and bold red blazer jacket shows the evolution of the Miss Dior character.
