AUTUMN WINTER 2011/12 TREND ANALYSIS

Autumn/Winter collections this season have seen both a flourish of fresh, new ideas and trends, as well as some trusty favourites, in which we all see year in, year out.

This season’s sophisticated, chic and detailed collections were show cased by designers giving us a preview into the elaborate trends up and coming for next autumn/winter. Material and colour have been experimented with; in dramatic contrast to his floaty, sheer fabrics in the S/S 11 collection, Erdem played with rich embroided velvets. Tom Ford also emphasised velvet, as well as lace and embroidery in his sumptuous collection.

As always, high-necks and long sleeves have been seen in these Winter collections. Wedge heels appear to be making an appearance, being carried over from S/S 11. This trend seems to be going strong, being seen in several shows such as Aminaka Wilmont and KTZ.

Between Charles Anastase in London and Micheal Kors in New York, 70’s retro made a come back with flared trousers, silk evening looks and crystal strewn draped gowns- very elaborate.

For us younger generations androgyny was experimented with by Alexander Wang who revisited the trend with some reinvented capes and poncho’s- which were also popular in A/W 2010. Alike Wang, Phillip Lim unveiled shirt-tail silk dresses, and boyish ¾ length trousers. Both collections could be described as biker chic.  So many different trends to choose from!
